[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "The Suprise That Lies Yonde Beyonde" by Staedtler Berol.]
The Surprise That Lies Yonde Beyonde by Staedtler Berol is a short book that attempts to decipher a newly discovered language. The creators of the book claim to have found the content of this book as a few loose papers in a ruined state. They stated the whereabouts of the place they found it in. The place is in Tristan da Cunha. The ones who found the papers tried to sort the characters of the ancient text to create some sort of organized content. They want to share it with the public so that people can learn about this newly discovered material. They chose not to reveal their real names.
This review was hard to write. Primarily, because there wasn't much that was disclosed to the reader. The only thing I liked about this book is the mysterious quality about it. I love ancient texts and undeciphered languages. This type of book always holds a surprise. So, it was exciting to find this one.
However, this was the only thing I got to be excited about. Other than the part about the author, the entire book is written using the characters of the new language. The characters are incomprehensible. There weren't any guidelines provided to read it. It is understandable that it might be the writers' wish to keep their discovery as enigmatic as possible. However, as a reader, I expected to know what the writing was about at least.
I give The Surprise That Lies Yonde Beyonde by Staedtler Berol 3 out of 4 stars. The points mentioned in the previous paragraph are the main reasons behind this rating. The book seems to be unique and promising. However, judging by its current content, it lacks critical information. I also found a few errors in the part written in English. It seems like it needed a round of proofreading to be professionally edited.
This should be useful for people who work in or enjoy deciphering languages. Readers who love mysteries and riddles will find this book enticing. In the book, it is mentioned that The Surprise That Lies Yonde Beyonde is a book of mystery, for it has no clear owner or writer. It doesn't have a clear purpose or origin either. I believe this perfectly sums up the book. I hope another volume would be published soon. Maybe we could learn more about the nature of this language and arrive at some sort of interpretation. After all, humanity's greatest discoveries all started with incomprehensible scripts.
