Review of Rescuing General Patton
"He was looking out into the distance, perhaps at a battlefield, an expression of fierce, fearless determination, the eyes between his patrician nose filled with the exhilaration of commanding soldiers in combat."
This is how Curtis Stephen Burdick describes General Patton most eloquently in his novel Rescuing General Patton. This book follows the story of the US military commander General George Patton during World War II. He appears to have become trapped behind enemy lines and is attempting to assist in the world's most dangerous rescue effort. The book begins with a description of a book signing event hosted by author John Harding. Never in his wildest dreams did he imagine he had been meeting General Patton's granddaughter who would present him an envelope that would shake John to his core. What will be in the envelope? What happens next? Curtis Stephen Burdick's amazing historical fiction tells all about it.
First and foremost, I believe the book's opening was pretty distinctive and uncommon compared to any other novel I have read thus far. I was hooked on the plot like a magnet from the start, and I was eager to find out what would happen next.
What I enjoyed most about this novel was how the author depicted the entire setting of World War II. It was, in my opinion, really commendable and flawless. I felt like a bystander in the background, merely following the story from afar. I was truly moved by the author's description of all the details.
It is, in my opinion, a very well-written and well-researched novel. I found it to be an interesting read, action-packed, masterfully crafted with thrills and suspense, and the author was successful in getting his audience to experience all of the events that he desired. I guess I was simply swayed by the details on each page. They assisted me in visualising the entire landscape/scenario as I turned the pages in utmost excitement.
I was also astounded by the author's writing abilities. The novel vividly conveys a soldier's emotions in such a raw way that you are forced to wonder if they had to go through it all. It also discusses how war is awful for everyone and the various effects that it has. As a reader, I experienced a wide range of emotions, the most prominent of which were grief and agony.
Without hesitation, I would give this book a perfect rating of 4 out of 4 stars. This book contains everything a reader might want in good historical fiction. The characters are portrayed so realistically that you feel as if they are right in front of you, presumably rehearsing. The plot was as good as the characters, and I found myself completely immersed in it. The book was also well-edited since I found no typos or mistakes. Although the novel contains some profane words, which was exchanged between the soldiers, I considered it to be quite acceptable and understandable by all means.
I would enthusiastically suggest this book to all historical fiction readers as well as those interested in learning more about the world war II scenario. I guarantee that this book will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end.

You just stated exactly what I was thinking when reading this book. I'm also hoping for a movie adaptation of this book! How wonderful it would be.
