Review of Something Beyond Love
Something Beyond Love is a military thriller by Wimberly N Griffin (Pen Name: Slone). The story tells about Brad Stanley, an American soldier fighting the war in Vietnam, and his emotional distress from the infidelity of his wife Anna. Brad attacks an enemy military plane and his plane is hit back, sustaining critical damage. He manages to land safely while suffering minor injuries. He is involved in surveillance of enemy troops with military planes, and he gets into difficult situations that he manages to get out of only due to his quick calls, awareness, and accurate descriptions of his location.
Brad gets back to Germany, where he investigates his wife's routine to see if the whiff of infidelity was true. He learns a devastating truth about her betrayal. He is not sure whether he can forgive or forget. He separates from Anna to wait for the emotional turmoil to cool down. Did time heal the heart wounds? To find out, read Something Beyond Love.
I liked many things about this work. The plot was fascinating and captivating. The story was told from different perspectives. We learn about the occurrences in Vietnam, the life of Anna and her children in Germany, and later, the focus changes to Susan's nursing carrier as well as her love life. I also enjoyed the diversity in the story. There were so many elements, changes in settings, unique characters, and lives that felt real. I had a clear understanding of all the characters I encountered in the story. They were adequately developed. I also found this work to be philosophical in nature. It seemed to ask if the biblical teachings were the moral compass of the characters, or was it that feeling they had beyond love?
There are aspects I did not like as well in the story. I came across many swear and curse words. It also contains adult explicit content that is not suitable for an audience under sixteen. There also was the use of acronyms and military terms that did not make much sense to me.
I rate this work 4 out of 4. I can not give a lower rating because I found the work to be fast-paced, gripping, and entertaining. The story was organized into parts that independently told about a series of related events. The events were nicely bridged. Moreover, I found the work to be professionally edited.
I recommend this book to people who like adventure stories, love stories, military life, and strengthening stories. The characters in the book pray and quote verses from the Bible, but I feel everyone can enjoy this writing. There are gruesome events described in the book that may be disturbing to some readers.
