Bullheaded Black Remembers Alexander by J. L. Taylor is a book comprising fourteen chapters. This is a story of Alexander the Great and the great invasion of the Middle East. This is a story of one man’s courageous determination to advance freedom of religion and racial equality in Egypt and Mesopotamia (present-day Iraq). This story is narrated by his long-time horse, Bullheaded Black.
He also conquered Asia Minor (present-day Turkey), Persia (present-day Iran), and Bactria (present-day Afghanistan). His main goal was to unite a civilized world under a central government trying to promote peace and international trade. This is a story of Alexander the Great’s vision for a better world and how those dreams died with him in Babylon at the tender age of thirty-three. This is a man's story before the advent of Christianity or Islam.
One positive aspect of this book is that it gives a more accurate historical view of Alexander the Great, who remains one of the most popular kings in history. The book also teaches us about his ideologies, for example, his push for racial and religious equality. This ideology will have a positive impact on readers in changing their worldview. Another positive aspect of this book is that it shows us that education is key. What I mean by this is that the education given to Alexander the Great at a young age by Aristotle helped him to see the world in a different way, ask more questions, and have a mind of his own. Another positive of this book is that it shows or rather teaches us that education is important.
This book has just one negative aspect. It is that the storyteller of the biography of Alexander the Great is a horse. So, some readers going through this book may think that the story is mere fiction, not knowing that the stories told by the horse are actually real-life events that took place in history at a particular time. Although this might be the author's style, it removes the feeling of reality from the book.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because the book has no grammatical errors, which leads me to believe that the book was exceptionally well edited. This book also gives a deeper insight into the history of Alexander the Great, one of the most prominent conquerors the world has ever seen. For these reasons, I rate the book highly.
I recommend this book for historians and readers who enjoy the biography or autobiography of other persons. I also recommend this book to fiction readers as it is a great story. I would especially recommend this book to lovers of historical novels.
