Aliya is a charming, bright woman who everyone enjoys being around. Lilian is an ignorant woman who complains and tantrums like a child. Nobody wants to be around Lilian Earton. What happens when these two characters come together as one? What happens when the vivacious Aliya is trapped in the body of the sluggish Lilian? Will she be able to make a positive shift in her life or will she succumb to Lilian's lifestyle?

First Lessons is the first novel in Lina J. Potter's historical fiction series. The story becomes intriguing with the addition of compelling characters. It was fascinating to watch how ancient people lived through the eyes of a character who lived in the modern world. The plot flowed along at a fair speed that was neither too quick nor too slow. Apart from the main character, there were stories about other characters and their lives. There was enough action and mystery in the novel. Aliya's brave and cheerful character is a plus for the tale. She is a fictional idol. She is lively, joyful, and talented, and she never gives up. She explains what anyone can do if they put their minds to it. I was encouraged by her. Her character in the story was one of my favorites.

The narration, speed, twists, and plot of this novel were all excellent. I couldn't stop myself from picking up the book again after I put it down. The author has the ability to captivate readers by arousing their curiosity. The story also offers many positive messages, such as the need to put in effort in order to achieve greater success, making lemonade when life tosses you lemons, and being brave. However, Aliya's ability to adjust to her new environment without brooding on her old life could have been different. She didn't miss her prior life's dead parents nearly as much as she missed the technology. The section in the story where she adjusts to her new surroundings without being baffled may have been written differently.

This is a well-written novel that includes action, suspense, and a unique story structure. I enjoyed the characters and how they kept my interest until the conclusion of the story, as well as how it ended in suspense, which is also a lead for the future series. The story was well-crafted and free of errors. As a result, I'd give this book a 4 out of 4 rating.

I would recommend First Lessons to anyone who likes historical fantasy. This book is appropriate for readers over the age of 16.
