Walking with an Open Heart by Dusty White is an autobiography. The book chronicles the major occurrences in the life of the author. The jobs that she had, the major people who affected her life both negatively and positively, the reasons for some of her life decisions, and the experiences she had during her life are described. The book begins with her life in Germany. She unveiled a betrayal that made her leave and move back home. More betrayals happened in her life till she fled to the gates of a brothel. This is where her adventures begin.

The book had a lot of positives. Firstly, it is enlightening. The author, through her life experiences, shows the nature of the prostitution industry. The advantages of prostitution are shown. Some of the advantages are the ease of making money, the simplicity of the transaction between the parties, the freedom a person can have doing the work right, and the speed at which a person can earn money. The disadvantages of prostitution are also shown in the book. These disadvantages include being manipulated by pimps if a person has one, competition between the sex workers, and the stigma that is associated with being a sex worker. Trucking was also expounded on in the book. The reasons individuals become truckers, the importance of trucking, the advantages a person has as a truck driver, and the disadvantages of being a truck driver were all highlighted in the book. The discrimination that women face in the trucking business was also described in the book. The book was enlightening about the thrift store business as well. Secondly, the book is entertaining. The author gave a lot of stories which helped in enhancing the quality of the book. The stories were also used as comedic relief to subside the tone of the book. Thirdly, the book shows how a person can take back their life from the problems they have. The author showcases this through her life story as she pulls herself up when in a horrible situation. The book had pictures that enhanced the reading experience.

The book also had negatives. Sometimes the timeline of the book was confusing. The time difference between two activities or events was not well established. This made it confusing when reading as a longer or shorter time is assumed between the activities. Her age was not told in the book enough times as well. Secondly, the positioning of the pictures halfway through the book spoiled some of the things in the book before they were described. Thirdly, not enough information was given about her childhood and parents. They remained a mystery throughout the novel. Also, more information should have been given about the adoption of her children. Fourthly, the author talks about her love life in the latter part of the book. Her love life should have been entwined with the story when events that corresponded with it occurred instead of waiting for the latter part of the book. Also, she could have mentioned her meeting with her son when she was describing other events in her life that corresponded with meeting him instead of waiting till the latter part of the book.

I give the book three out of four stars. Although it had some drawbacks, it was not enough to reduce the quality of the book. The author narrated her life experience and struggles well. She highlighted the actions that moulded her to be the person she was and affected her in making her life decisions. The book was professionally edited.

I recommend the book to those who want to go into prostitution, as the book shows you some of the experiences that arise while in the business. I also recommend the book to individuals who want to go into trucking, as the pros and cons are shown in the novel.

The author's story seems interesting, motivating even, and seems to draw on some life lessons. If I can somehow look beyond the negatives, I might just enjoy reading this book. Well done.

Walking with an Open Heart by Dusty White is an autobiography. The book is interesting and can enhance one's knowledge. The book brought recognition upon the lives of sex workers and how sex working also has its advantages and disadvantages.

I give the book four out of five stars, for it being professionally edited, having pictures to make the reading easier and for it being so relatable.

It had its negative such as the timeline being a bit confusing.

But I definitely recommend the book for a person who wants insight on working as a sex worker.
