The bridge by Andrew Palmer is all centered in Quebec at two different time zones: the building of the Quebec bridge and the last project of two engineering students at Hamilton. Esther, a studious student who is bent on making all A’s and wishes to graduate as one of the best engineers, was paired up with Ben, a guy who was almost not interested in the class and had to do everything his best buddy wanted. Their pair was unlikely, but they had to come together to study and investigate deeply the fall of the Quebec bridge and the reason for the induction of the Iron Ring on all the fingers of the engineers in Canada. The duo found a journal which the site engineer had kept—a book where he penned down all of his events from the early beginnings of the nineteen hundred and the case surrounding the bridge.

As they begin to unravel the happenings, they see a lot of things they couldn’t have seen from learning the history of the Quebec bridge. Alec, the site engineer and the owner of the journal, explained how it all happened: his marriage to Ginette, his wife, his reasons for choosing to work on the Quebec bridge, and how the falling of the bridge came about. The journal also talked about the secret behind the Iron Ring festival, which was held in order to celebrate the death of the site manager and all the other men that lost their lives that day. Ben notices another thing, something that would change his life forever.

Andrew Palmer's The Bridge was interesting and humorous. There was a lesson to learn from it: the determination of engineers, how mistakes are inevitable but how we can make corrections out of them. My favorite character is Ben. He made a lot of mistakes but never gave up; he took responsibility for all the wrongs he made. That was a very good attribute I picked from him.

I must say, there was nothing negative in this book. The plot was amazing; the content and story line were easygoing and would pin the reader down. Andrew Palmer did more than a great job. I must say, this is one of the best pieces of historical fiction I’ve read.

I’d recommend this book to teenagers, young adults, and older adults. It is a book that will tell you to man up to your mistakes and correct them; it’ll show you that there is a big difference between ignorance and negligence. The Bridge is a good book.

I’d give The Bridge four out of four for the competence of the writer; the professional edits; the story line... virtually everything in this book. The Bridge is an enlightening and intriguing masterpiece.

The book appears to be incredibly engaging. The only issue I have with these novels is that it can be difficult to distinguish between historical fact and fantasy at times. I appreciate the excellent review.
