Save Me Twice presents World War II from the point of view of a young German soldier named Karl, who is reluctantly drafted into war during Hitler’s terrifying reign. Author E. A. Dustin has crafted an exceptional story that challenges the reader to consider what happens on both sides of a war. In this case, the young soldier is forced into joining a war that he and his family deeply oppose. However, anyone who openly displayed their opposition would be ruthlessly killed.

Karl is just 16 years old when he is ripped from his home one night by a nasty German SS soldier, a childhood friend Karl played with just a few years ago. It was the tail end of the war, and very young soldiers were recruited at this point. Karl’s brothers were also taken from the home. Karl was forced into a position quite close to enemy Russian forces who were closing in. Karl’s fears for his brothers, the rest of his family, and his Jewish friend Daniel are captured in the narrative.

This was a gripping story, and I found it hard to put it down. Dustin was masterful in illuminating the perspective of someone forced to fight in a war to prevent their death and that of their family. The narrative was engaging, and the character development was excellent. It was easy to get caught up in Karl’s story. One of my favorite aspects of the book was how the author captured Karl’s emotions. I felt like I was right there with him. I also appreciated how this book was told from a unique perspective. That made it completely different from other books I have read about World War II.

The book was very compelling, and I didn’t have any criticisms about the narrative. I thought this was one of the best books I have read this year. It can be emotionally challenging to read a book about such a difficult subject as the Holocaust, but this book was a very worthwhile read. From an editing standpoint, there were just a few small errors. This book deserves the highest rating of 4 out of 4 stars.

Save Me Twice is for adult readers who appreciate historical fiction. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes to read thought-provoking literature. This book can provide a unique perspective if you are already very familiar with World War II history.

A note at the end tells readers that more than 60 million people were killed during World War II. That’s a stunning statistic. Considering what’s happening right now in the world, Save Me Twice is a highly relevant book that illuminates what can happen when one deranged person seeks to impose his will on an entire nation.

From your review, I see this book as an engaging and catchy fiction. I began to feel emotional about Karl and his family.
I just hope they will be safe after the war.

A sad reflection of the plight of so many conscripts across the world.
You've captured some of the injustices and horrors of war. I appreciate how you have included details of the character's personal experience and the mass impact of war. Thanks for your insightful review of this immersive story Marsha JJ.

This sounds like a really captivating war story. I can already tell the main character Karl is someone I'm going to fall in love with. Great review.

“Considering what’s happening right now in the world, Save Me Twice is a highly relevant book that illuminates what can happen when one deranged person seeks to impose his will on an entire nation”. This has led to a lot havoc and will continue. If this book could serve as a warning, that could be good. Thanks for the excellent review.
