Love, hatred, war, peace, magic, and mystery. These and many more are what make up Dagger's Destiny by Linnea Tanner. This book consists of 55 chapters and 634 pages and tells the story of a kingdom torn apart by greed and lust for power, but brought together again by love and the desire for peace and tranquility.

The book generally revolves around Senator Lucius, a vassal of the Emperor of Rome who was sent to Britannia for diplomatic negotiations but had other plans to invade and conquer; his son Marcellus, who fell in love with the daughter of King Amron, his father's sworn enemy; her stepbrother Marrock, a druid and wolf shape-shifter who seeks to overthrow his father and become the new king of Cantiaci; and King Amron, who is torn between his love for his daughter and upholding the standards of the kingdom.
King Amron was cursed by his late wife Rhan, whom he beheaded for her treachery. He fights alongside his wife, the current queen, and his daughter, Catrin, to break the curse and retain peace in the kingdom.

This is honestly a very intriguing novel to read. I especially loved how the author meshed the amazing plot of the story with the early century theme, giving it a tinge of excitement impossible to get otherwise. My favorite character is Catrin. It was fun reading about how she had to choose between her father and the love of her life. It was saddening that her own father could have presented her with such a difficult choice. At one point, the pressure on her was so intense that she considered turning the knife on herself. I found this scene very realistic. It really appealed to my sense of drama and enigma.

This book was so exceptional and marvelous that I found nothing wrong with it. The entire plot was quite pragmatic, and the author painted a very vivid picture in my mind. The scenes were well developed and detailed. My favorite scene in the book was where the king asked his daughter to kill her lover to prove her loyalty to him. This was a difficult choice for her, as refusing to do so might mean admitting to treason. I was quite satisfied with her choice and the subsequent result.

I'm rating this book 4 out of 4 stars. There were no mistakes or grammatical errors in the book. Apparently, it was professionally edited. I loved how each character's actions were clearly stated and the subsequent repercussions for them were equally explained. It was easy to identify the cause of each mishap in each chapter. The connection every scene had to the next was easy to understand and made the book more interesting. I recommend this book to people who love historical novels and general fans of magical adventures.
