The House of Spark by Luminita Laflash explores friendship, family, and personal convictions. In this story, three friends risk everything to try and save their friend’s life. Friendships and love are truly tested in this novel, which is set in Romania during the Communist regime.

Jenica made plans to meet his girlfriend, Virginia, but never shows. Virginia is left confused, as this is unlike Jenica. Together with her friends Mircea and Doina, Virginia must take drastic measures to figure out what happened to Jenica. Did he disappear willingly, or is this something much more sinister? What was Jenica involved in that his friends were unaware of? Virginia, Mircea, and Doina must follow clues left behind by Jenica to find him and possibly save him from a terrible fate. However, they must also remain off the radar of the Communist government who may be watching their every move. Will the friends find Jenica? Will they be able to rescue him from whoever or whatever is keeping him away? Read this exciting novel to find out.

I really enjoyed this book. The storyline was easy to follow and kept me intrigued throughout. The story was exciting, and had multiple twists and turns. Jenica’s friends must decode messages and solve mysteries to lead them to him. Just when I thought I knew what was going on, there would be a surprising twist. I found myself truly invested in what happened to Jenica, and whether or not his friends would figure out what happened to him. I enjoyed reading a book about a different time period and culture. The characters were well-developed. Jenica’s friends clearly care about him a lot, and face many dangers and risks to find him. This kind of fierce loyalty amongst friends makes for good reading.

There was nothing I didn’t like about this book. It was professionally edited with only 3 noted errors. The book had just the right amount of excitement, thrill, love, and friendship. It will make the reader think about friendship and relationships in a different way. There was no profanity or inappropriate content in this book.

Overall, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys an exciting book with great characters that is a quick, easy read. I would also recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading about strong friendships, love, and loyalty.
