Thanks for the excellent review. I love historical fiction that gives insight into a part of history I'm unfamiliar with. This story of William's adventures in Spain is indeed enticing.

William traveled to Spain and was lucky to meet people who welcomed him and help him to adapt to the society. The author shares vital information on the people, culture, politics, and religion of the people. To me, getting to read this book will allow me to learn about Spain. Nice review!

William truly exhibited significant passion for Spanish culture and language, at the detriment of his freedom.
I would like to know what his experiences was like.
Thanks for the well-written review and congrats to the author.

In my opinion, there is no justification of civil war, not that any other is all that better. We currently have waging war in Europe, which in my mind is almost civil in its nature considering how closely tied always were Ukraine and Russia culturally, ethnically and even linguistically. I hope you excuse me, but prefer to pass the story of travels through country damaged by war. Still congrats on BOTD!

I have been in Spain a few times, but the local culture is still not very familiar to me. Maybe William’s experiences would offer new insights into this culture, even though this book tells about a different time. William must’ve been very brave to travel to a country that was just experiencing war.

Thanks for the lovely review!

I think William was in great danger for going to live in Spain just during the civil war. I like the descriptive style that allows you to perceive the places, the people, and the culture. Sounds interesting!

This is a very insightful and informative review, and after I sampled a couple of chapters, I agree that this book's story is well told. I also agree about formatting and hyphenation errors. My only reservation about reading this book is the mention of suffering in the opening quote by Miguel de Unamuno and the mention of tragedy seen by the protagonist that impacted on his life choices.

I found the writing very good and engaging in the pages I read. However, I agree with the Reviewer that there are many formatting issues. I'd like to read this book, but since I just plowed through a poorly formatted book, which I found so distracting I couldn't enjoy the story as much as I would otherwise, I'm going to take a pass on this one until the issues can be resolved.

Traveling to a country going through political and religious upheaval is something I would avoid at all costs. From my high school Spanish classes, I learned about the Spanish Civil War. William was definitely taking a large risk in the BOTD. Nice review.
