Review of Apollo's Raven
The book Apollo's Raven by Linnea Tanner was an amazing book that has a lot of information that helps me understand the second book better. This is the first book in the series The Curse of the Clansmen and Kings. The Romans are threatening to invade the land because someone claims they are the rightful air to the throne. A major part of the story talks about a curse that is forcing the king and his queen to not trust certain people. You also find out about some interesting love affairs and other secrets in the family. In the end, this does cause some hardships and deaths, but it will add to the story.
I am giving this book a 4/4 stars because this book is interesting because of how well it is interesting. The writer did a lot of research into the druidic life and beliefs along with the Romans' beliefs and life. I am now interested in learning more about this writer and reading more of her books because she researches the history of the culture depicted in the book from the people of Britannia to the Romans. The main characters are fictional, but parts of the history that is talked about. In my history class, we talked about how different people who write about history can be influenced by their environment. Though in this book, I loved how the main characters wanted to better understand each other. They did not let the history that they knew of their people influence their opinions of each other.
Pros: The pros I can give this book are that the book has a great writer, a great plot, and an awesome story that I can disappear into for hours on end. I love books that take me to a different plane of existence where I can see the story that is being told in my head. Any book that does not do that for me is not one I would not enjoy reading because I cannot see what I am reading. In my book review for the second, I loved this book and cannot wait for the next book to find out what comes next. I loved how the rituals were described in the book and how she described their beliefs about life and death.
Cons: Pretty much the only con is how much I feel like I am reading a bad teenage romance novel with bad lines. The writer is good, but I got bored with how the two main characters acted like two teenagers the whole time. There is a weird sex scene that felt like she wanted to get through fast or was forced to write out. The whole time I was bored and almost wanted to rewrite the scene with a better love scene that was not cringing to those who want a good sex scene. Though I did like the setting that the scene was though the moment was ruined by the next paragraph. Another con is how the male character acted after sex since it felt like she did a complete one-eighty with how she wanted her male character.
So, I enjoyed this book other than the interesting sex scene that was weird the whole time I was reading. The reason I am giving this a high score is that it is still a great book to read. I would recommend this to adults who want a good book to read anytime they want to read it. If you like history and magic, then this is the book for you.
