Review of Apollo's Raven
Apollo's Raven by Linnea Tanner is an historical fantasy set around 24 AD in Celtic Britain. The book is a blend of mystical experience with an intriguing fight for political supremacy. Catrin was in the forest when, through the eyes of her Raven, she saw Marrock among the Romans, sailing towards her kingdom. Marrock was her half-brother who was banished years ago for a despicable offense. She quickly ran home to inform her father. She met the Romans Senator Lucius Antonius filling in her father, king Amren on Marrock's plans to overthrow king Amren and become the king of the Cantiaci kingdom. King Amren became worried and he proposed a negotiation between himself, King Cunobelin and the Romans. Due to distrust and in case of betrayal, it was agreed that Vala, king Amren's eldest daughter will be taken as hostage by the Romans with Marcellus, the son of Senator Lucius going the other way. However, a love affair springs up between Marcellus and catrin. Meanwhile, there is a secret curse that Catrin must alter to save the Cantiaci kingdom. Will this curse be finally altered? Will Marrock have his way and overthrow King Amren? Will the impossible love affair between Catrin and Marcellus survive the surrounding hostilities and detestations?
Apollo's Raven is a suspenseful, intriguing and captivating novel. I like how the novel was structured chronologically. I will also commend the author for her accurate historical descriptions which are work of extensive research prior to writing this book. The author also did a fantastic job of interweaving the concept of love, magic and betrayal without making the book confusing. The words used in the novel are clear, informal and unambiguous allowing the reader to fully understand the story. The book was also exceptionally edited as I couldn't find any errors.
