Lina J. Potter has created a masterpiece with her book First Lessons, the first of eleven books. Aliya, the main character, was a medical student and an aspiring surgeon. When she visits her family, she dies in a car accident. Aliya awakens to find herself in someone else's body. She has been reborn, sent to the past, and has woken up as Countess Lilian Elizabeth Mariella Earton. Aliya finds the living conditions of this time revolting, so she decides to improve the world around her.

There were many good things to speak of in this book. The main character is intelligent and strong-minded, but isn't invulnerable. Their weaknesses allow the story to flow steadily. Likewise, the story is fleshed out and decently well-made. Not only were the characters convincing, but they were also riveting. The story was realistic, original, and, most importantly, distinct. I could see no problems with the era, and I commend the author for pointing out specific features from the time period. They make the story unlike any other I've read, especially for the genre. The plot is smooth, and the main character moves the story forward effortlessly. Because of how organically it moves, there was never a time in which I felt bored. The story follows logical thought, and the editing is exceptional. Even now, I am seriously considering collecting the rest of the series.

As far as negative aspects, there isn't much to note. If anything, the story was too complicated. While the main narrative is simple enough to understand, the storyline is not. The lineage was too convoluted and confused me. It was hard to remember who anyone was. Worse, picking up context clues in the text proved to be burdensome. Luckily, the intricate plot did not throw off the main story with Aliya.

I easily rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. There was no way I could give a book this marvelous less than that, even if I had difficulty following some of the more intricate parts of the story. I expected to take a week to finish reading this book, but I finished it in less than a day. It was too intriguing, and I never knew what Aliya's next move would be.

First Lessons is a book I could easily recommend to anyone. The characters are compelling, the story is smooth, and the plot is packed with action! Anyone interested in transmigration novels would easily enjoy this book, especially those who prefer strong female leads.

Reincarnation drew my attention. What would the life of Aliya be after she reincarnates? I think this book is going to be an easy-flow read for me. I like that you highlighted many positive aspects of the book. Keep it up! You wrote a wonderful review! :tiphat: :congratualtions-smiley:
