Dagger's Destiny is the 2nd book in the Curse of Clansmen and Kings series. True to her form Linnea Tanner tells the tale of ancient Britannia, all with druid magic, forbidden love, and betrayal.

Princess Catrin has fallen in love with her father's enemy Marcellus, a roman soldier who just tried to take the kings life. Catrin uses black magic to save Marcellus's life betraying her father, who ends up badly injured. Upon discovering Catrin's betrayal, King Amren fears he has no other choices, he must charge her with treason. Catrin must regain her father's trust by becoming the King's warrior and forsaking her love for Marcellus. Rhan, the first wife and queen of King Amren has placed the king under a deadly curse for ordering her beheaded after giving birth to Marrock, the firstborn son. Catrin changes the destiny of the curse upon her betrayal and is the only one who can break it. Catrin and Marcellus are caught up in the greed and corruption of political strife between territorial leaders and her half-brother Marrock. Will Catrin keep her oath to her father and give up Marcellus? Will she be able to save the king and triumph over the deadly curse?

I chose this book for the historical element. I am a big fan of ancient history, and Linnea Tanner does a great job with accuracy of the past, feel, time and place. Her descriptions of the characters, surroundings and events pull you into the story. I felt like I journeyed with Catrin while she weaved in and out of this world and the otherworld, changing threads of destiny, and fighting for herself, her father, and her love. At every turn of the page, the unexpected happened. I became so enthralled with the book; I could not sleep due to wanting to continue reading. I have not been privileged to read the first book in the Curse of Clansmen and Kings series. However, I was pleased that Dagger's Destiny stands alone very nicely. I will for sure be picking up all of Linnea Tanner's previous and future books. She has made a new fan.

The only negative aspect I found about this book is that, in my opinion, it should have been more than a 600-page novel. The font was so tiny I had difficulty reading the words. I thought the book would be better if it had a bigger font and more pages.

The editing of Dagger's Destiny was excellent, and again, the tale, with all its complexities, was extraordinary. I give it a 5 out of 5 stars. It's a fantastic book for young adults to older adults who enjoy historical romances with a lot of magic and intrigue thrown in. I would not recommend it for children because it does have some explicit language and sexual scenes throughout the book.
