William Augustus Roebling was born on April 9, 1864, on a farm in Wisconsin. His parents were hard-working German immigrants. He had a wonderful childhood on his father's farm, built a special relationship with the animals, and had a particular keenness with nature. He was fond of science, and with his eidetic memory, it was no surprise that he was top of his class. He went on to college, where Professor Loomis became his mentor.

William joined the "Signal Service" and worked on a one-year assignment at Fort Myer with Professor Abbe. He later transferred to the New York field office, where he founded his forecasting system. This system helped him to predict the coming of the 1888 blizzard. Did his prediction help to save his close and special friends?

At 478 pages, Blizzard!! The Great White Hurricane by Timothy R. Minnich is a fictional retelling of the blizzard of 1888. It is a book with lots of information about the nineteenth century. It also includes a large amount of history about the beginning of weather forecasting. I must commend Timothy for his writing skills. He drew me in and put me in the moment through his narration and timeframe. I was intrigued as I read through the book.

This was a good overview of the blizzard of 1888 — the conditions at the time and how the blizzard changed the people's identities and the country's future. What I liked most about the book was the author's penned detailing of the events that transpired. He stated the dates and timing of these events, and they helped me understand the blizzard occurrences.

I also liked that the author incorporated a semblance of romance into the book amidst the chaos of the blizzard. The book was very well written and easy to read, as the author gave many personal accounts of the blizzard and the havoc it created over the two days it ran its course.

While reading, I noticed the author's incessant use of uncommon hyphenation. Some places didn't require where hyphens were used didn't require them. I was almost perplexed about it till I went back to the "FACTS, FICTION, AND ACKNOWLEDGMENTS" section of the book. I then understood that it was a style unique to the author.

The book is exceptionally edited, and there is nothing I dislike. As a result, I rate Blizzard!! The Great White Hurricane 5 out of 5 stars. I recommend it to readers interested in history and meteorology.
