The Eagle and The Dragon, a Novel of Rome and China by Lewis F. McIntyre tells of a diplomat and his entourage's journey from Rome to China and back. There is a long journey ahead of them, and during their adventure, they have to survive things in life as simple as weather and as exciting as pirates and combat. during their journey, they will make many friends and enemies, and sometimes that line can be blurry.

I like several things about this novel. Lewis F. McIntyre did a very good job of keeping the long journey flowing nicely with events to keep it fresh. I never once found that I wished he would move on and get them back to Rome. I also liked the fact that he used a lot of language from the area or time period. The author did a great job of integrating several cultures, religions, and technological differences into his book.

There is only one complaint that I had as a reader, and it is not necessarily a problem with the novel itself or the writer, but my own vocabulary or lack of it. I had to constantly look up words in the dictionary or google the meaning of things such as azimuth, amphora, or Guangluxun. The use of such words temporarily took me out of the story, but I found once I knew what it meant, it enhanced the story that much more.

I rate this book five out of five stars. The novel was extremely well-edited, and you could always tell what was being said and why it was being said that way. I felt that he did a wonderful job of writing the novel. It always left me wanting more. I also cannot mention enough how well he made the journey flow well even though it was a large part of the novel and in most books I've read like this, I'm usually over the trip and can't wait for them to get to the destination. My vocabulary has definitely grown since reading this book and has awoken my appetite for more stories in this time period and area.

The Eagle and The Dragon, a Novel of Rome and China is for those who like to read about the time period of ancient Rome and China. If you like a variety of interactions from dialogue to stealth, and combat, this book is for you. I do not recommend this book to children and teens due to the language and that there is sexual content.
