Indebted by Natalie Jayne is the second of a series but is a great stand alone novel. The hardest and best part was trying to figure out what the orphaned teenage Gideon is trying to say. This book is about his trials and frustration with being sentenced to 3 years to a leading citizen.
During this period many secrets are kept as Gideon and his new friend Peter try to deal with mysterious strangers that cause problems for the boys. Almost the entire town is against Gideon except for the sheriff, doctor and a few friends. His strange manner of speaking, his illiteracy and secrecy all make major problems.
Suddenly the small town is hit with thievery. Strange events are all blamed on Gideon. The boys are threatened with death all over a deed which they know nothing about.
The boys continue to outwit the bad guys at great expense to the small town. Gideon's guardian tries hard to build a relationship but the boy refuses planning to get even for the death of his brother. No one realizes that poor Peter is a recent orphan and should share blame for some of the problems.
All the characters are a great story by themselves. The loyalty between the boys shine although they don't know all about the other. I would love to see the story continue. Great free book from this site!
