Discovering Twins by Stella Claire-ter Hart is a true life story about family. The secrets that were hidden and the experiences of each character. Stella's mother, Sophia, shared information about twins running in the family. This was new to Stella and didn't sit well with her. Stella began to research and find out more about her maternal side. If you are eager to know more about Stella's discoveries, get a copy of this book.

This book starts with Stella and Schoontje, who were both pregnant, Stella gave birth to one child while Schoontje delivered triplets. The author narrates her story as a child, her family and her extended relatives. She narrates how life was during the war and how they survived starvation. The author describes her mother's life when she was younger and the secrets she carried about her family. She tells us about the various visits to her relative's homes where she discovered that their families were large which was made up of uncles, aunts, grandparents, cousins, nephews and the list goes on.

I must commend Stella for a job well done in narrating her true life story. I connected to each character emotionally like I was present with them. Furthermore, the short reviews at the beginning of the book were both encouraging and catchy. Reading people's opinions about the book only made me eager to read the book. I have always had a thing for twins and wish to give birth to twins, just like Stella wished.

The discrimination Jews went through was something that I was sad about while reading the book. Just like Saayan who went through so much hate and was bullied by Lonnie, Bert, Jan and others was so heartbreaking to read about. I like how Mrs. Terhart encouraged him after the bullying stopped to face his fear and be himself. Moreover, I am a lover of family and love and this was worth reading. One more thing I loved about this book, was how Stella described every dish in the book. I must confess, it was mouthwatering.

The author did well in providing the meaning of the Dutch words used in the book. This will help readers to understand the book completely. I did not dislike any aspect of this book and must say it was professionally edited. I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Likewise, I recommend Discovering Twins to readers who are intrigued by historical stories and to anyone who loves stories about families.
