Linnea Tanner has outdone herself writing Apollo’s Raven , the first book to the Curse of Clansmen and Kings series. Taking place in 24 AD on the southeast coast of Britannia, Apollo’s Raven takes readers through a fantastic journey with the Celtic princess, Catrin. Catrin was born with a raven spirit. She is the daughter of King Amren and Queen Rhiannon. Before marrying Queen Rhiannon, King Amren had to behead his first queen, Rhan. At her execution, Rhan bestowed a curse upon King Amren. King Amren and Queen Rhiannon believe Catrin is the embodiment of the curse. Later, during heated negotiations with the Romans, Catrin meets Marcellus, and takes an immediate liking to him. However, with Marcellus being Roman, their love is forbidden. Now, with Britannia and Rome on the brink of war, Catrin must decide between fulfilling her duty to her home and following her heart.

There are many positive aspects in Apollo’s Raven . For one, Linnea Tanner does an excellent job of providing background information on both the characters and events in the story. Also, there is an exemplary display of characters’ emotions and connections throughout the book. The buildup of the plot and characters were other amazing aspects of this book. Additionally, there are no grammatical errors.

Despite how good Apollo’s Raven is, the book does have some negatives. An example of this is the amount of character perspectives. Most books cap at three different perspectives; however, there are at least five in this story. This creates a little bit of confusion when the perspective first changes.

The final rating for Linnea Tanner’s Apollo’s Raven is 5 out of 5 stars . This book receives the full five stars because it captivates the reader, and the book captures the historical portion perfectly.

Anyone that is 16 years of age or older should read this book. It is not recommended for anyone younger than 16 due to the amount of sensual content and profanity used throughout the book.
