Linnea Tanner's Dagger's Destiny is a fantastic entry in the historical fantasy series Curse of Clansmen and Kings. Although it is the sequel, this book stands well on its own. People who are drawn to stories exploring dark topics like murder, sexuality, and old rituals will like this book. If you wish to start the series from the beginning, then read Apollo's Raven. The illicit romance between Princess Catrin and Marcellus drives the plot. Princess Catrin wants the Roman prisoner Marcellus, so she breaks him out of King Amren's prison. But King Amren charges her with treason, so she must abandon Marcellus to show her allegiance to the throne. The book has well-developed characters, such as the cruel King Amren, who had his wife, Queen Rhan, murdered for betrayal. The author has a beautiful way with words, and the plot moves quickly and elegantly, keeping the reader interested. The book is a great combination of science fiction and magic. Every action is worth reading.

The author's creative imagination and how she brought her characters to life was what I liked most about the book. The book's heroine, Princess Catrin, is a fearless warrior and a talented druid who goes against the grain of her culture to do what she believes is right. The fact that she was willing to risk everything for her forbidden love for Marcellus, a Roman prisoner, shows how strong love can be.

The author has a compelling way with words that draws the reader in and doesn't let go. Her dedication to studying and keen eye for detail shines through in every chapter, lending an air of verisimilitude that further enhances the book's appeal.

The book had many good points, but there were also certain parts that I found difficult to read. The graphic rape scenes were unpleasant to read and took away from my appreciation of the book. However, this is only my opinion; other readers may find something quite different. Apart from the obnoxious rape scenes, I did not dislike anything else. I rate the book 5 out of 5 stars because it is exceptionally edited, enthralling, and suspenseful.

Overall, Dagger's Destiny by Linnea Tanner is an incredible historical fiction that I recommend to anyone moved by the book's powerful message of love, bravery, and selflessness. This book is a must-read for every history buff interested in the Romans and the Brits.
