No matter the convenience of a new life, it is always hard to forget an old one, especially when you have people you care about living in that life.

Bancheva's book skillfully immerses readers in the turbulent setting of 1980s Bulgaria under the control of the Communist regime. The protagonist, Yana, grapples with the conflict between her own freedom and her duties to her family in a compelling manner, prompting contemplation on the ethical complexities of informing. Despite moments of sadness, the narrative ultimately celebrates themes of strength, love, and standing up for justice, making it a compelling choice for enthusiasts of historical fiction.

This review makes me curious about the rest of the plot. Yanna's dilemmas are relatable, even at least, at the figurative level. At some point, we have to be two personas at one time. Yanna's context however heightens the dilemma. How, indeed, will she handle it?

The plot sounds intriguing, and I'm particularly interested in reading about the Bulgarian-centred names of people, foods, and events, as you mentioned the author incorporated in the book. I know almost nothing about Bulgaria. The book not only seems interesting, but I believe readers could also learn a thing or two about Bulgaria. Thanks for your honest review.

It's a difficult choice for Yana: either leave her new family behind or let her sister suffer endlessly. Whatever choices she makes, I do hope she doesn't choose her own happiness at the expense of her sister. Thanks for the review!

Reading this review I could say that this book weaves a compelling tale of love, sacrifice, and moral dilemmas. That's very interesting, thanks!

I am fascinated by Yana's search of freedom as she travels to Wales. I am intrigued by the offer on Yana to be an informant in order to receive visa. I am interested in learning who Yana would choose to prioritize: her sister or her new family.

Thank you for your detailed review of "A Secret Life" by Mina Bancheva. Your insights into the characters' struggles and the thematic depth of the story are illuminating. It's refreshing to see how the book explores perseverance and forgiveness amidst challenging circumstances.

A Secret Life by Mina Bancheva is an emotional story about freedom. It follows the story of the main character as she has to choose between the greater good and other options. Congratulations on BOTD.

I JUST finished reading this gem and woah! It took me through all the feels and the essence of what it means to be human, which was beautiful. The fact that Yana let people down in her life who she loved dearly and still found redemption, was inspiring and a great reminder that we are human and we will mess up and make wrong choices sometimes, but redemption can be found if we put in the work.
