[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Guns For Sonora" by J. A. Greene.]
Guns for Sonora by J.A. Greene is a novel that portrays the post-Civil War era (in the late 1800s) along the mountains and deserts of the US-Mexico border. It tells a story of survival, loyalty, and the post-war struggles to regain normalcy in life. Connor, a Civil War veteran turned arms smuggler, faces a bleak future, partly due to his overconfidence and the lack of trust among his so-called associates. Hoping to retire to a ranch he laboured for after leaving the Army, Connor soon realizes that living as an outlaw hinders his dreams of an honest and stable life. He retraced his steps after a near-death experience that strengthened his resolve for vengeance and stability. Love poses a threat as he unintentionally competes with the same person on two fronts: business prosperity and romance. Read Guns for Sonora to discover where Connor's story leads and how it concludes.
Although fictional, the novel realistically depicts the Wild West, a place and period of brutally enforced sentiments, laws, boundaries, and regulations, forcing everyone, irrespective of status or background, to tread carefully and discreetly when necessary. Among territorial, moral, and survival battles, this book promises intriguing and adventurous entertainment that makes readers feel involved in the story.
I enjoyed the systematic and clear introduction of characters, which prevents confusion and ensures readers can easily follow the story without losing interest. The concise and explanatory backstories allow the actual story to shine without getting buried under lengthy narratives. The book's professional editing also deserves commendation, as it contains no typographical or grammatical errors.
There is nothing to dislike about this book: it has a solid plot, well-developed characters and stories, realistic storytelling, and thoughtful language control. I give this book a rating of 5 out of 5 because of its exceptional editing and how the well-laid plot weaves each character meticulously, resulting in an engaging page-turner.
I highly recommend Guns for Sonora to all fiction novel lovers. It provides satisfying entertainment and offers valuable lessons for discerning readers. This book is an amazing read and a great way to spend time.
