[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Guilty of Stealing His Heart" by Nancy Lynn White.]
Carrie, a five-year-old girl, was placed in an orphanage, the Columbus Female Benevolent Society. She cried out, longing for her mother's return, unable to comprehend why she'd been abandoned in the hands of a stranger. This trauma haunted her for years. Her life's challenges had just begun. She spent 11 years in the orphanage before it burned down. Carrie lived in Columbus with her childhood friend, Ruth. At 21, she married Philipp, a bank owner, finding love and security. She became a respected Christian in society, boosting confidence in Philipp's bank. Unknown to her, Philipp was convicted of robbing the bank and killing Hank, a Pinkerton agent. Her reputation shattered, making trust a distant concept, a painful echo of her parents' betrayal. What lies ahead for Carrie? Would fate ever grant her lasting happiness? Discover Carrie's journey in Guilty of Stealing His Heart.
Nancy Lynn White's Guilty of Stealing His Heart is a historical fiction set between 1844 and 1860, recounting Carrie's journey through love and life.
This remarkable work boasts several distinguishing features. Its opening pages are captivating, sure to enthrall any reader, as they did for me. The story unfolds realistically, with the author vividly describing the weather conditions during pivotal events, anchoring them in time. I formed a deep emotional connection with Carrie, sharing her tears and laughter. The narrative skillfully unveils crucial plot points, keeping me engaged as I delved into Carrie's world and the turning points in her life. Each chapter is thoughtfully titled, enhancing my immersion in the story right up to the end.
This story relies heavily on dialogue, which can slow down the pace, especially in the early parts, leaving me eager to discover what would happen next. However, towards the end, the pace quickened, and I found myself enjoying this change. It became clear why the author chose this pacing approach, and I appreciate it. I didn't find anything to dislike in the book.
The book is professionally edited; I only found a few typos. I give it 5 out of 5 stars because of the valuable lessons it imparts. I recommend it to enthusiasts of historical fiction, realistic fiction, and stories with shifting paces.
