I agree with the author that the title of this book, The Shot Not Heard Around the World, is the best pick. This book is about Jeremy, who has a career in medicine. Jeremy has a chance to shoot the enemy with a musket while on the battlefield, but he cannot bring himself to do this. The enemy notices Jeremy, and for some reason, he spares him too. Little did they know that this was a turning point in their lives. Jeremy realizes he is incapable of violence and joins the field of medicine. Doc Thorndike trains him. Jeremy finds an injured scout in a chicken coop who becomes his first patient while being taught. Doc Thorndike also has a secret, which he reveals to Jeremy after delivering a child. What is this secret?

I love Doc Thorndike’s character in this book. He is always willing to assist whenever there is a need. He provided the necessary assistance in educating Jeremy and Roger about the medical field. The author, Charlie Damitz, ensured the chapters of this book were easy to read in addition to the title, creating awareness of what I was to read about.

I find the book dull due to the lack of numerous intense moments since it also contains the theme of war. It was exceptionally edited since I found no single error as I read it.

I rate this book five out of five stars. Although this book has a coherent storyline, I find that the peak moment of this book is at the beginning. This moment is when both Jeremy and Roger fail to fire their muskets. After this incident, the events in this book seemed like plain explanations of different situations. This caused the book to be dull without a moment where I anticipated the events in the book.

This book is a good recommendation for a person who has an interest in the medical field. Some specific areas in the field mentioned include treating burns and conducting operations. It also contains information on the imperative aspects of wartime medicine.
