A Tale of Ancient Egypt

One of my favorite genres to read. Historical fiction. Jocelyn Murray shows her readers the story of two kings who lived about 2000 BC. This tale about ancient Egypt tells the story of Khu, who is adopted by Tem one of the wives of King Nebhepetre Mentuhotep II. Khu’s village had been destroyed by Ankhtifi who was the enforcer for King Wakhare Khety III. Jocelyn has the talent to bring this time alive in the imagination of her readers. The excitement of the festivals with the musicians tuning up their instruments, acrobats practicing their dances, and merchants setting up their stalls, and the priests getting ready for the ceremonies in the temples can be found in this wonderful story. My favorite character is Khu. One of my favorite lines from the story. “Better to be dirty and blameless, than clean with a filthy heart.” And another, “It is the dirt within men’s hearts that is more offensive; the filth you cannot see.” The battle for Egypt was not being fought by the gods, but by two of the most powerful kings at the time. I have rated this story a solid 5 stars. I would like to read more of Jocelyn Murray novels.
