Jeremy, a young soldier armed with weapons and ammunition, is headed toward killing the enemy. When it was time to shoot, he stopped and rethought taking his life. In "The Shot Not Heard Around the World" by Charlie Damitz, the plot progresses with Jeremy and other men withdrawing from the field of war, shed with blood and tears, to join in the field of medicine. Jeremy's internal turmoil to stand against taking lives and move to saving lives was beautifully crafted in this book. His innocence and guilt while hugging his father to get relief, as shown in the book, deeply resonated with me. After joining medical school, he was trained under Doc Thorndike, who was always there for him when he needed.
The author gives a detailed description of the American Revolutionary War and the intense moments on the war field. The writing of the author was fluid, which made it easy for me to grasp the story. The character development and dialogue delivery were well-developed. I found the use of grammar perfect, and the editing was exceptional. There was nothing I disliked about this book.

What I loved about this book was when the author beautifully showed the emotional turmoil of a young man torn between duty and morality. Jeremy's redemption and self-discovery after joining medicine made me realize how empathy and compassion should be valued in moments of conflict. The introduction of Doc Thorndike as a mentor was perfect, as his guidance was what made the plot engaging. Through vivid descriptions, I found Damitz's storytelling style engaging.

I rate "The Shot Not Heard Around the World" five out of five stars for promoting empathy, compassion, and self-discovery through the lens of Jeremy. With Damitz's meticulous attention to detail and vivid storytelling, I recommend this book to readers looking for thought-provoking and emotionally resonant narratives.
