What would you do to get rid of your husband? Would you slip something in his drink, or would you hire someone to shoot him? This is the dilemma that several wives had. Seventeen, to be exact. They desperately wanted to get out of a loveless marriage and needed some cash, so they turned to an evil guy named Giorgio. A very handsome man, back in the 1930s, Giorgio bedded half of the women in town and told them each that they were the only ones he loved. It would be simple. Take out an insurance policy on your husband. Have him knocked off, and we will run away together. Did the plan work? Did the women kill their husbands? If so, how did they do it? Did Giorgio run away with them?

This is the premise for the book The Wicked Wives by Gus Pelogatti. Gus heard about these poison murders when he was eight years old and knew that one day, he had to write about them. It is set in Philadelphia during the Great Depression, where there were gangsters and crime everywhere. Based on a true story, what wives will do to eliminate their husbands is unbelievable. Back in the 1930s, it was almost unheard of to get a divorce, and so the women would turn to someone who had no morals and would help them. The women were naive and thought that these guys helping them were not only wonderful lovers but were indeed in love with them and would marry them afterward. This book was very fascinating and entertaining. The book contains stories of deceit, crime, conspiracy, corrupt politics, adultery, etc. The author developed the characters and the storyline so that you were invested in reading this book to the very end.

The book is well-edited, but I found a few minor things that needed to be corrected. I must warn you that there is some profanity, sex, and murder mentioned in the book, so I would not recommend this book to young adults or sensitive adults. I recommend this book to those who like a good crime story. I could only give this book nothing less than 5 out of 5 stars, as it is that good.

Hey, if Giorgio were to run away with these women he would be in grave danger. This story is very interesting as it is so unusual. The Great Depression pushed people to do desperate things. I did not know that this was one of the popular desperate things to do. This is a true story. I want to read this book. Shirley Ann, thank you for this concise and informative review. :techie-studyinggray:

This sounds like a fascinating crime story that highlights the plight of women at a time when they did not have the same rights they had today. It is very sad to know that there were women during this time period who felt so desperate to get out of their marriages that hiring someone to help them kill their husbands seemed like their best option. I am intrigued to know more based on your review. Keep up the good work!
