Linnea Tanner's historical fiction novel "Apollo's Raven" tells the story of Catrin, a Celtic princess living in Britannia during a time of potential Roman invasion. The book's intriguing mix of political intrigue, forbidden love, and Celtic mythology creates a world that is both believable and fantastical.

Catrin, the novel's protagonist, is a powerful and fierce warrior who is deeply connected to her Celtic heritage. She is the last child of Cantiaci's rulers, King Amren and Queen Rhiannon, and she bears the enormous responsibility of protecting her people from the impending Roman invasion due to her ability to see visions of the past and future. The story is made more ominous by the rumors of an old curse left by King Amren's first wife, which mention a "Raven" who will rise and bring about destruction. After a dark encounter with her half-brother, she discovers her connection to ravens and must confront the powers within herself. The novel's political landscape is a tangled web of alliances and betrayals, with Catrin's father, King Amren, negotiating to maintain his position. Catrin and Marcellus, a Roman senator's son, fall in love. Although their love story is sweet and passionate, they are forced to make tough choices because of their conflicting loyalties.

Tanner writes with such vividness and detail that the harsh beauty of the Celtic world comes to life. This book's most appealing aspect, in my opinion, was the straightforward language it used. When I first started reading, I expected to find sentences written in difficult English, but to my delight, this was not the case.

There is nothing I disliked about this book. I give it a rating of four out of four stars. "Apollo's Raven" is a captivating read that will transport you to another era. It explores themes of loyalty and duty while offering a gripping adventure. It is well-written and researched. This book was clearly expertly edited because I could find no grammatical errors in it. This book is the perfect combination of fantasy and historical fiction, but because of its level of sexual content, it should only be read by mature readers who appreciate both genres.
