Review of Truth and Evil
I was delighted to review the book (i)“Truth and Evil”(/i) by G. Edward Martin. The author begins with a warning. This book is only appropriate for adults. He explains that this is a complex book to read and understand. There are horrific events that readers may find too distressing to continue reading, but staying through to the end of the story will make it worthwhile.
The author tells the classic story of how truth trumps evil, which has repeated itself in different scenarios an untold number of times in civilization. These haunting words stay with the reader. Why do these evil acts repeat themselves? Why will human beings never learn from the past? There are no answers. It is only God who knows the answers. God will save us from our sins if we find our way to Him, or He will destroy us in the end because of the evil that dwells in men’s hearts. Ministers teach that the only power is truth.
The story is about a German soldier in WWII who was born a farm boy, grew up to help his father on the farm, and was kind and happy. He and his friends enjoyed school, and they loved their country. Then the seeds of evil racist ideology infiltrated schools. When he joined the military, he learned to dehumanize people from other ethnic groups, and he followed orders to eliminate them.
During one of his terrible acts, the soldier's life on earth stops. He stands before God. They discuss the soldier’s actions. The soldier kept returning to Earth until he finally took the right action. He relearned the difference between good and evil that he taught as a child.
This experience changes the soldier’s life, as it is miraculous for a person to break free from a cult. He travels back to the day he stood in line to join the military. He warns his countrymen in line. They refuse to join. The men found themselves imprisoned rather than being shot. God continued to commune with the soldier in prison.
This is an amazing story of redemption and freedom from evil. This reminded me of the story in the Bible about Saul on the road to Damascus, where he met God, the truth, and received his freedom from his evil life. The author wrote a spectacular story. He presents the story with wisdom and kindness. Although there are shocking incidents, the author treats every individual with respect. I found nothing I didn’t like about the book. There were no typos. This is because of excellent proofreading. Because of the reasons noted above, (b)I rated this book 5 out of 5 stars.(/b)
