The book "The 13th of Summer" takes place in South Dakota and tells the story of a poor family living in a place where the weather never favours them. They frequently face deadly storms that sometimes destroy their farm and property, and at one point, take lives.

Betty and her family live in South Dakota. They were poor and owned a farm. The book starts with Betty's mom, Etta, heavily pregnant and ready to give birth. Etta was the mother of many children, and Betty was the closest to her. On the day Etta went into labour, it began unexpectedly in the absence of a doctor. Despite this, Betty and her friend Lloyd braved a heavy storm to find a doctor, who arrived a little too late. Grab a copy of this book to discover how the storm affected this family and the loved ones they lost to it.

One thing that stands out in this book is the family and friends' relationships, especially evident in the way Alfred cared for his kids. The one time he wasn't present, something unpleasant happened. I also loved the relationship between Betty and Lloyd and how Lloyd cared for his horse, Scout.

I never had a boring moment from the start of this book to the end. The plot and storyline are very intriguing. Betty and her family lived through hard times but always supported each other. The strong relationships between neighbours and friends in the community were also evident. In the last pages, the events were very emotional, making this book truly worth reading.

I found nothing to dislike about this book. The narrative was very interesting and didn't lack character development. The wording was also very simple. I didn't notice any grammatical errors, which indicates proper editing. All these factors are commendable and prompt me to give this book five out of five stars.

This book would be a good read for most people. However, I would recommend it specifically to those who enjoy books focusing on family and friend relationships, as well as to those who value childhood memories and friendships.
