Review of Dagger's Destiny
“Dagger’s Destiny" is the second book in Linnea Tanner's Curse of Clansmen and Kings series. In this story, Catrin and Marcellus face growing political and violent conflicts between their groups. They must navigate these challenges while trying to protect each other, but constant interference from others makes it increasingly difficult.
With enemies hiding in the shadows, trying to stop their efforts for peace between Britannia and Rome, and a dark prophecy written on a dagger threatening them, can Marcellus and Catrin’s love survive? Is Marcellus fated to lose everything because of a foreign woman? Will Marcellus' father, Lucius Antonius, succeed in starting a war between the kingdoms of Cantiaci and Catuvellauni? Will the prophecy come true, or can Catrin change it again?
What I loved most about the book was the author's creative imagination and how Tanner brought the characters to life. The main character, Princess Catrin, is a brave warrior and skilled druid who goes against her culture to do what she believes is right. Her willingness to risk everything for her forbidden love for Marcellus, a Roman prisoner, shows the power of love. The pacing is perfect, letting the story unfold at an enchanting and captivating speed, balancing action and reflection. The plot is full of twists and turns, keeping me eagerly anticipating what will happen next and fully engaged throughout.
I gave this book 5 out of 5 stars because it expertly deals with complex themes like fate, choices, and consequences. The way these elements were woven into the story, along with the gradual uncovering of the curse, kept me completely hooked. Plus, the added extras like maps and chapter headings made the reading experience even better. The detailed character development and their story arcs really enhanced the book's appeal, making it easy for me to give it a perfect rating. There was nothing I disliked while going through this book. This book was exceptionally edited without errors.
If you enjoy historical fiction, Celtic mythology, or action-packed novels with a touch of fantasy, you might like this series. However, I wouldn't recommend it if you're sensitive to violence, gore, or the deaths of women and children. The book has many graphic battle scenes and includes disturbing elements like corpse desecration, rape, and incest. If these topics make you uncomfortable, this isn't the book for you. But if you like series such as Game of Thrones or Vikings, you might find this book very enjoyable.
