With the ongoing war between Germany and America, as well as her allies, towards the invasion of Italy, one of America ’ s finest generals is captured. George S. Patton, an American general, a dogged and fearless man, ruthless in the face of war, knowledgeable and brave, but also a man with many flaws, somehow manages to get captured and taken to enemy territory. Although he was able to temporarily conceal his true identity, that was insufficient for the ongoing battle. Dauntless soldiers and rangers were ordered to his retrieval. As with all wars, this was a grotesque sight—the expected yet unpredictable face of death, the trauma that followed, the fatigue, etc. A lot of resources were put into Rescuing General Patton, as well as the sacrifices made, as it was believed that his presence or absence was of great consequence to the war.
Curtis Stephen Burdick did a phenomenal job on this one, I must say. I clutched onto my heart the entire time while reading. This book is historical fiction laced with facts, and it is enthralling. I appreciate the spontaneity of the plot; the unpredictability of the story comes with adrenaline and keeps you on your toes. I appreciate how the author was able to capture all the components of war, the unspoken scars that may never heal, and how it takes a toll on a person's life.
I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. I have no notes on which it could be improved, as it was excellently delivered and also exceptionally well edited. The mannerisms and the excellent portrayal of a soldier's life and essence—that was a job well done. I recommend this book to lovers of suspense. If you also like some action, then this book is for you.
