Review of Apollo's Raven
Wishing to fulfill her duty but even more wanting to love, the main character, Princess Catrin, does not betray her people and the Celtic religion, even when not only a witch but also a king orders her to have no relations with dark magic. However, the feeling of love is not easily dictated, and when she is attracted to a man who embodies everything her people fight against, her allegiance is put to the ultimate test. As her heart wrestles with her sense of responsibility, Catrin must confront the ultimate question: will she give up the prospects of love or remain determined to adhere to her duties?
In the novel Apollo’s Raven, I was enthralled by the incorporation of history, romance, and fantasy in a way that drew me in round after round. As a lover of fantasy, I was awestruck by how well Linnea Tanner could write stories and create well-developed characters. The narrative progresses at a breakneck speed, as can be expected from an action-packed video game franchise. One of the things that I appreciated about the book was how the author maneuvered into the minds of the characters, aside from the protagonist, who is Catrin. The story goes from one theme to another while limiting the use of narratives to express important information in dialogues. These ‘behind the scene’ insights derived from a third-person omniscient point of view enrich the story. Thus, the story of Apollo’s Raven is a true masterpiece as it combines romance, fantasy, and darkness with perfect ease, bringing the reader to a world of magic and supernatural beliefs and making him or her eager for more.
I appreciated the story of Apollo’s Raven, especially that it was empowering that its leading character was female. In regard to Catrin, her character is great, as she is capable of balancing independence and responsibility and proves respect for her royal background. I respected her as a smart, ambitious, and strong-willed woman who could always handle difficult circumstances with poise. Also, the descriptions of the Celts being merry lovers of the festival and the brave warriors also made me feel fully in the story. In all fairness, I must say that I have no negative things to say about this book. It is a book that is delightful, and I found myself thoroughly engrossed throughout!
As I flipped through the pages, I realized that this book has been very well polished and given a professional touch by a worthy editor. The characters were well delineated and realistic, and the plot was well set out to introduce the series in a proper manner with the requisite amount of thrill. I was very impressed, and I hereby give this book a deserving 5 out of 5 stars. If you are interested in historical romance or any adventurous story, this book is a must-read.
