Truth And Evil by G. Edward Martin is a historical fiction set during World War 2. The author takes us back to when things were far from rainbows and sunshine. With the power of religion, we read how easy it is to be influenced by the devil. We follow a young soldier in the middle of war who does some horrible things and dies, leading up to trying to redeem himself. After having a religious breakthrough, the young man changes his thoughts on the war and tries to make the necessary changes to try and ensure he goes to Heaven.

Truth and Evil was very well written, making it easy to read. The author states at one point Truth and Evil was a dark book due to some of the content involving rape and murder, but I didn’t see it as being a dark book. Maybe I am not as sensitive as others, but when thinking about World War II, I already expect that horrible things are bound to be exposed. I liked how the young soldier regretted his crimes during the war, and when things took a turn, he still wasn’t let off easy.

Without the help of others, sometimes it gets hard to see what’s good and evil, and this author got that point across. The author shows us how easy it is to follow the wrong way just because a group of people we love says something different.

I would rate this book five out of five stars. I liked how easily the story flowed. It is a short story, but it didn’t need to be any longer. Although I thought the book would be “darker” like the author described it, I don’t feel it needed to be. I believe the author did a great job in composing this story, the transition between passages was smooth and kept me wondering where he was going with the story.

This book is suited more toward adults or any mature-minded individuals. G. Edward Martin wrote this book based on the Christian religion mixed with World War II. If you are not religious, you may not like this book. I am not religious, but I still enjoyed the story. It reads in a way that religion is not pushed on you or made to seem like you need to be Christian to read the book.
