Truth and Evil by G. Edward Martin is a novelette that takes the reader on a journey of right and wrong as perceived by a young German soldier in World War II. This story is not for the faint of heart, and I would advise that only mature audiences read it.

The story follows an unnamed soldier who has to decide and chooses very wrong in what I consider a moment of weakness. Ultimately, this decision leads to his demise and his first of many meetings with God. God allows him the opportunity to tell the truth and sends him back to relive the scenario he had just faced. This trial and error happens a few times and the story follows the young soldier every step of the way. Will he finally get it after so many times? I recommend reading this novelette to find out. This book has religious elements to it, and as such, those who are not religious may not enjoy it as much as those who are spiritual. I am not a religious person, but I can still appreciate the novelette and the meaning behind it.

This novelette has some hard parts, but that didn’t stop me from reading it in one sitting. I don't see any negatives in this book. The graphic content feels necessary to get the author's point across. The novelette is quite short, which I think is appropriate as there is a lot of mature content, and if this were written as a full-sized novel, it would not be as easy to finish. I would consider the theme to be on the dark side, as there is a fair amount of violence, including rape, in this story. I did not find any editing mistakes while reading. I would rate this novelette 5 out of 5 stars. Overall, this is a well-written story that covers some of the darkest parts of a human being and the will that some have to overcome evil and accept the right thing to do.
