Richard’s main reason for going to the war was to speed up the process of marriage to his beloved Rachel Purdue whose father Alistair had given Wilson and Rachel a deadline of one to two years though it wasn’t certain it would be that sooner either. So Richard thought that going away to war for a year and returning with both Rachel and his feelings about each other still the same or even stronger would prove his love and Devotion to Rachel.
How the story transitions is unique, many writers don't do this. Geoff Lawson moves intermittently from Wilson’s life at war to his life at home in Patea, visiting and living in Whaganui New Zealand. Wilson’s everlasting love for Rachel Purdue the only girl to ever got his full undivided attention how they met and how their love blossomed, how both families got close and formed a beautiful Bond. Arthur Geoff Lawson in his Brilliance in descriptive writing vividly explained how everything evolved from the start to the climax to victory and peace.
I was delighted and moved to find out that this story ended on a positive note. This book is full of excitement, passion, loss and hardship. I absolutely love the the author’s form of writing and How he transitions from war in Africa to Patea and Whaganui. Some readers on the other hand may find it confusing and not be able to follow the story when it’s being told in this form. However I find it very creative and daunting because I didn't know how it all would end and that kept me intrigued.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars for its strong storyline, Vivid description, great characters whom must I say all played a part or role in this story and the blooming love of Rachel Purdue and Richard Wilson is the icing on the cake. Bottom line the book was beautifully orchestrated I recommend this book to anyone it has a mixture of everything. Hats off to Geoff Lawson on this amazing book.
