Apollo's Raven by Linnea Tanner is a historical fiction that takes place in 24 AD, on the Southeast Coast of Britannia. It is about a young princess named Catrin that finds herself thrust to the forefront of her family to save them from her evil stepbrother Marrock and his allies. Catrin is the youngest child of the Celtic King Amren and Queen Rhiannon. She is near womanhood and recently discovered that she can see through the eyes of a raven which means she is a sorceress. The raven shows her premonitions of the past, present, and possible future and can enter her mind allowing Catrin to experience virtually everything the raven does. Her father thinks she cursed by his first wife. Others say she is blessed by the god Apollo. Her mother accuses her of betraying the kingdom for her Roman lover.

I immensely enjoyed reading this book. The author performs an incredible job producing characters with lots of depth. She also uses vivid language describing the scenes. There are several plots unfolding collectively which keep you guessing about the ending. I liked the scene when Catrin melds with her raven for the first time. The writer describes it with such clarity you definitely feel you were there with her. I also love this quote, “Dreams are glimpses into your soul. Time stands still and destiny flies over life’s currents.” Catrin remembers those words from her father at a pivotal moment in the book. Lastly, I like how the magical etchings on an old dagger keep changing showing Catrin that the future of the kingdom is truly in her hands. The writers’ ability to invoke strong emotions from me towards the characters and events happening is impressive. I am looking forward to reading more books from Linnea Tanner.

I found nothing to dislike about the book. The excellent author did everything well in my humble opinion. If I have to pick something, I would say it was not long enough. I could have kept on reading this book and did not want it to end.

I sincerely believe the best target audience for Apollo's Raven would be anybody interested in fantasy, mythology, sorcery, and ancient Celtic and Roman conflicts. I enthusiastically recommend it to readers fifteen to adult since it includes brutal violence and intimate sex scenes I would caution younger age readers.

Apollo's Raven is brilliantly written and will keep you continually engaged. I loved all the conflicts and magical parts in it. Even though I discovered two punctuation errors; I still rate this book a 4 out of 4.
