Review of Giving Glory to God
Giving Glory to God by Ginger Dannhaus is a Christian, non-fiction novel describing her journey with God. Her unshakeable resolve to honour God and serve him has helped her through trauma. The book is to help others find their relationships with God to live a blessed life.
Ginger Dannhaus is from Texas and married her soulmate, Kyle, 30 years ago. She has two sons, Jason and Blake, and a daughter-in-law, Leanne. Her memoir begins in 1998 when her mother was weak with an autoimmune disease. Despite doctors thinking her health would improve, she passed away at the young age of 53. Ginger cried every day for the next three months. During this time, a friend gave her a Bible. She had never understood the Bible before, but she started hearing scripture and knew she was hearing the voice of the Lord.
Ginger memorised scripture and anointed her body with oil to arm herself against evil. She was given rhymes and prophetic sayings from God. This life of worship began to make her stronger and heal from the loss of her mother. God continued to guide her through life, overcome obstacles, and navigate health issues. The author hopes her story can inspire others to let God into their lives.
This book is suited to a Christian audience. It contains quoted scripture and advocates a life of worshipping God, reading the Bible and attending church. The author is extremely devout and spends her time dedicated to worship. Daily, she anoints herself and writes prophetic poetry given to her by the voice of God. Visions and dreams are also mentioned, in addition to being a chosen person by God to help and educate others. These extraordinary accounts are intriguing but might not resonate with readers who are not as strictly religious. I admired her dedication to her faith but found some ideas out of my spectrum of religion.
I enjoyed reading about battles with grief and health and how she coped and overcame them. These parts of the book are beneficial for readers who have experienced trauma. The positive messages and coping strategies are heartwarming.
As well as stating God is the key to salvation, the author offers some practical tips she utilised when suffering from ill health. Discussions of how diet is key and being able to exercise when necessary are great. I found the vitamin supplements that helped her an interesting addition. This part of the book provides a thinking point about Western medicine compared to natural remedies.
The book concludes with a selection of prophetic poetry. The author believes the words were given to her by God. The poems are well-written and provide powerful messages. I enjoyed them and felt it was a great idea to include them.
I only found one error in the text, so I believe the book is well-edited. I liked the life story and the descriptions of what has been overcome and achieved. I appreciated some religious content, but I thought this was a little heavy in parts. I admire the author’s passion for helping people and her dedication to her faith. I rate the book 4 out of 5 stars.
