Kathryn Sprandio Ells put many of her short stories and poems together in Please Read Me. Each poem and short story is different from the ones before and after it, with each having its own chapter. The poems are all shorter and easier to read. The poems range in topics from love to dating to treats. These poems tended to make me laugh because they were interesting and different than I expected them to be. The short stories go over a lot of different moments in life that a girl or woman can face. Each short story was about a different character, from their point of view, and went through the emotions that the character was dealing with. The women in some of the short stories had similarities, mostly in that they were a little over the top with Facebook stalking and expecting a lot from the guys they had met or gone on a date with. They all seemed to be overthinkers, some in ways that made sense and others that seemed a little obsessive. The short stories show the times when the author was writing them because Facebook was new and people were just starting to text rather than call each other. The stories are relatable because I feel that I have sat in traffic making up stories for others, used Facebook as a distraction, and felt like the playground was a kingdom for kids to rule.

I give this book a 4 out of 5 rating. The poems were really short and easy to understand. The poem “First Lust” was amusing because of its subject matter. The stories were interesting, and most of them kept me engaged. I liked the short story “The Cut.” The main message behind this story is that you do not have to follow what everyone else is doing, and when you stop following others, you feel free. I like this message a lot. “Brush Burn” had a lot of little messages woven throughout. The way this story was written, with the flashbacks, was entertaining and kept me wondering how it was going to end. ”Traffic” is another interesting story that I liked reading because I could relate to it. I felt that most of her stories were entertaining and interesting to read because they talked about the technology change and how it affected the characters' lives. The book was edited well, with only a few mistakes. However, the writing was inconsistent with double and single quotation marks, which I feel is distracting. Some stories and poems were strange, and I felt like I did not need to read them. Also, I thought there were going to be more poems, but there were very few. I wish there had been more.

I recommend this book to women so that they can find themselves in the stories. I recommend this book to those who are looking for a quick read and something that they can put down and come back to without needing to remember what was read before. This book is good for people who are looking to read ironically funny stories and poems.
