"The Promise" by Marc D. McGill is a collection of thirteen powerfully written poems that all express a heartbreaking and empathetic exploration of love and loss. The author shares their personal experience with Huntington's disease and the inevitable death of a loved one to the disease; consequently, the author establishes a sense of originality and vulnerability that the readers can relate to. The poems are astutely written, using extremely simple yet powerful language to convey the raw emotion and depth of feeling that lie at the heart of the collection. The author's use of language is deliberate and careful, expressing pain in ways that readers can empathize with.

There were plenty of interesting and compelling themes in this poem collection. The author discusses a lot of themes, including the themes of love and loss, distress and mourning, resilience and strength, memory and remembrance, hope and optimism, and the impact of Huntington's disease on individuals and families. The poems express the pain of losing a loved one, the struggles to come to terms with the loss, and the importance of holding on to memories. The author also touches on the theme of the impermanence of life and the importance of cherishing every moment. The poems provide an intriguing yet sad exploration of the human experience, and the author's willingness to share their story makes this collection a must-read. The author's exploration of the complexities of love and loss stands out, as they convey the depth of feeling and emotion that accompany the loss of a loved one.

The author uses creative figures of speech that add a lot of depth to the poems. Imagery and metaphor are nicely used to convey the memories and pain of the author's experience, creating vivid pictures in the reader's mind. Repetition and rhyme are used in some of the poems to create a sense of musicality and flow. The language used by the author is very simple yet expressive, making the poems accessible and relatable to a very wide range of readers. The author's enjambment also creates a sense of urgency and emotion. The poems are a masterclass in the use of language, and the author's skill with various figures of speech is well and truly impressive.

In the collection, there is no discernible setting. The poetry's style meant that it wasn't really necessary. The author hails from the United States of America, so it might be safe to assume that the poems are set in the United States. The book had nothing to dislike.

I fully recommend this book to readers who enjoy poetry and are searching for a thought-provoking exploration of love and resilience, to those who have once lost their loved ones in the past, and to those looking for a heartwarming and empathetic exploration of the human experience. I would rate this book a 5 out of 5.

“The promise” from the review of this book, even though I haven't read it, sounds promising as it names implies.
The author is much experience delving from Love to lose, distress and mourning, resilience and strength, memory and remembrance, hope and optimism, and the impact of Huntington's disease on individuals and families. This is so intriguing and the reviewer cliffhanger has actually hang by interest in this book.
