Excellent review. Thank you. I loved the poem about the months in the year, one line says: "Darkness beat the commuter home", and another says: "homework gets fatter." Just delightful. I look forward to reading more. How beautiful when the words are just right.

"The Golden Windows," by Steven C. Brandt is a collection of around fifty poems divided into six different sections: "Self-Reliance," "Living Full," "Nature," "Joys," "Sorrows," and "Caregivers." Brandt is writing these poems based upon his own personal feelings, thoughts and experiences. While I read through these poems I understood some of them while others I did not. Each poem is well planned out such as the way it is worded, laid out on the page/pages, the way it is written in various ways and formatted. Free verse is used in each poem but not all of them rhyme. Some poems are very short while others are several pages long. You can say that Brandt definitely has a varied style of writing that is very enjoyable to read. Therefore I will have to give this collection of poetry 4*'s.

I like the creativity of the author in the formatting. I'm also glad that his poems are not all rhymes. Glad that you enjoyed it. Thanks for this review!

A methodically written collection of poems which come together to form a story about nature and the rights of passage is always a rewarding read. Thank you for the review. :techie-reference:

Sounds like a good ecclectic collection of poems. I am not a poetry buff, but I imagine I could get a lot from it. I love when author is honest or transparent in there writing, makes it easier to relate to. I may give this a try. Congratulations on BOTD.

I love poetry and your review has made me highly interested in this book. The fact that the poems make you think instead of just reading mindlessly is something I look for when picking poetry books. I will be adding this one to my to-read list.

The use of formatting and fonts to express the poem is a nice visual. The topics of nature, aging, the passage of time, love, and death sound like they could be very personal. Though I am not a poetry fan, I may give this book a try because of the story forms and the unexpected turn of events.
