I understand your point about the preface and introduction. I don't usually read books with poetry, but I'm glad that you liked most poems. Thank You for the honest and well written review.

I remember that I loved poetry back in school. May be it's time to rekindle that romance by reading this book <3

I also found that the preface went on for a long time. Thanks for the review

Clean poems are a lot of fun to read. I'll see if this one fits my taste and give it a shot! It only got a three star which is a knock against it.

Lovely! I always feel like I don't read enough poetry as I should, I like the idea of contemporary topics applied in poetry as well. And you can always skip the Introduction, no shame in that, so thanks for the review.

I love poetry, and I am a poet myself. This gives me hope that poetry is still alive and well. I am not sure that I would read this because of the nature of some of the poems. I will give anything a chance though. That is my new motto. At least try it once. Thank you for giving us this excellent review as a template as to how they should be done for poetry.

Great review! The collection of poems covers the variety of controversial topics between people and things. Other topics rely on human relations. I see it too long for me as i used to read short poems. But all in all it is interesting.

I really loved your review. Those poems were just amazing. Usually poetry is not my thing at all but this kind of made me interested. I think that I'm going to read this one soon too.

Great review. Sounds like a great read for people who like poetry. The fact that all the poems have a link to each other is interesting. Good luck and congrats on being BOTD.

How many clichés can fit into one preface? The answer in this case: too many! Now, granted, I only read the free sample available on Amazon, but that was enough to turn me off.
Firstly, if you need four pages to explain your poetry or your process, you're doing it wrong.
Secondly, I take issue with the generic "Giver of Life"term which is called upon by those too PC conscious to name whatever god they believe in, which is ironic since he later discusses upsetting "longstanding comfort zones." It reminded me of the hipster girls you meet in college who are vaguely "spiritual" but hold no discernable convictions.
Lastly, this entire preface could have been summarized with, "Hey! Keep an open mind."
Hopefully the actual poetry is better.

I'm not usually one to pick up a book of modern day poems, but it definitely sounds worth the try. Thanks for the great review!

Thanks for the review! I often skip the introduction and/or preface of poetry books so I can read the poems first and then read about their goals after so I understand your feelings there. I might look up some individual poems by this person instead of reading a whole volume though!

I agree with the reviewer the preface and introduction were long winded. I didn't even get to sample a poem in the Amazon sample. Though I love reading poetry I wouldn't know how to even begin writing a review, so excellent job on the review.
