Wars are not the answer, yet the future looks grim with wars and conflicts all around. The author through a series of poems shares the strength exhibited by the civilians who have given not up on their dreams. The OBC reviewer provides a glimpse into the emotionally loaded book of poems by author Seif-Eldeine. Congrats on BOTD.

I always love poems. This book could be a great opportunity for me to learn about Syrian conflict and people's lives after the war through the power of poems. Thank you for such an informative review.

An emotional farewell to our loved ones always evokes deep feelings in our hearts. This poem not only talks about war but life in a war torn land. This poem brings to light the stark reality that whatever happens life moves on. How children play in the stubble where once a family lived and breathed. This tears our heart as to the harsh reality of life.

The review was informative. The exploration of both frontline soldiers' experiences and the efforts of ordinary people maintaining a semblance of normalcy was captivating.

Seif-Eldeine's collection of poems "Voices From a Forgotten Letter" is a powerful read that eloquently captures life in Syria during the conflict. Strong ideas, vivid imagery, and an informative glossary combine to provide a compelling examination of human resilience in trying circumstances. Congrats on BOTD.

The collection of poems eloquently portrays the impact of war on Syria, capturing the resilience of its people amidst adversity. From the poignant struggles of an elderly mother with diabetes to the defiance of men playing dice under a "No Smoking" sign, and the heart-wrenching story of a forced marriage, the verses delve into the harsh realities faced daily. Seif-Eldeine skillfully presents the human side of the Syrian Civil War, showing that life persists amid destruction. The vivid imagery, especially children playing on rubble, evokes intense emotions. The poem about a dying soldier's last thoughts, merging Christmas with blood, is profoundly moving. The glossary proves invaluable for understanding Arabic terms. "Voices From a Forgotten Letter" deserves an unaltered 5 out of 5 stars; Seif-Eldeine authentically captures the turmoil, making readers part of the Syrian narrative.

Sounds like a very emotional book of poems. I am not a fan of war in any capacity and I rarely like poem books. It’s not for me but I am always listening for what others like to read and will give this recommendation to anyone that I hear likes this kind of book. Thank you for the very informative review.

Congrats on BOTD!
It looks like this book might have a significant emotional impact. These poems show how life carries on in Syria despite the conflict. They depict the ordinary lives of Syrians as well as, in certain instances, the lives of those who will lose their lives in the fight.

Your review is amazing, Tara! I sampled the first poem, The Sound of a Forgotten Letter, and I agree that the poem was perfect. I also liked your snapshots of other poems in the review, and I was particularly impressed by your summary of the poem about a dying soldier. These poems are masterpieces, and I agree that the book deserves the perfect rating you awarded.

Unfortunately, I will have to pass this book, since drama and poetry was never the genre of my interest. I get too easily confused by rhymes and rhythms in my native language, so with English, secondary self-learned, it is double so. Apologies and still congratulations on BOTD!
