Thank you so much for an amazing review! I love poetry deeply and dearly and am so thankful for this meaningful and beautifully written collection. The title itself is just great.

I've read A Loaf of Bread and highly recommend the collection of poems. I was not expecting a collection with so much feeling. She tied the poems together by using the word "jasmine" throughout the collection. Great collection of poetry.

This sounds like a wonderful collection of poetry. The author conveys so much emotion about a terrifying time. Congrats on the book of the day! Great review.

What I really like about poetry is that it can speak to a wide variety of situations. Also, how poems about similar ideas can vary in expression.

These poems are quite emotional and very heart touching. I can't even imagine the pain people go through in the war-torn zones. Great review.

I think I will like reading some poems about Syria's history. I would've liked to read a novel about it though.

Although I'm not a fan of poems, I admit that this book might be the one that would make me fall In love with poetry again. The cultural background appeals to me very much. This single line could give me thoughts for hours: “I am from the hushed steps to school.”

Rana Bitar herself a victim of civil war ,shares her distressful experiences of living in a warzone. Her poems addresses death, disease hunger, fatigue, fear and uncertainity. I felt the pain of her as a child ,describing her attachment with her family, her home, her culture, her envoirnment and her daily routine.By her poems she has tried to get the attention of the rest of the world about the sufferings of those facing it,especially the childern ,the most vaunerable.Beautiful review .Thanks!.

I am such a sucker for poetry and I believe this book was written very well. While I was only fortunate enough to read the sample, it was very moving. In her book the first poem describes who she is. At first glance you might think "oh great, another person describing themselves." However, after the first few lines I knew this author was going to be different. Who we are comes as much from our culture and experiences as who our parents are. Beautifully worded, Bitar offered the world a piece of her soul, a culmination of everything that leads up to her being her. Job well done!

Not a huge fan of poetry, but this sure sounds relatable, it opens one up to other people's culture and plight.

I'm very curious to read this book, just to see how the author handles pain and loss. I love poetry of any kind and I'm really looking forward to seeing if I'll add this to my favourites.

This is the first review I have read, I have just recently joined as a reviewer currently working on my first book. I have to say that this review is very thought out and detailed. I'm not too into poetry but I do like darker themes so maybe I will read this one if I can find the time.

I'm afraid poetry of any calibre is totally wasted on me. It's a pity, as I find myself envious of readers who can enjoy it and find the hidden meanings within the words. I appreciate your thoughtful comments, and how much you have clearly enjoyed this book. Excellent review.
