Train of Thought by Dunns Diaite, as is apparent from the cover, is a collection of poetry and quotations that strive to make the reader think more deeply about things. The collection is in six parts; The Winds of Life, Stay True, Mountains of Hardship, Love Blossoms, Streets Are Watching, and Simplicity, which was my favorite part. Concepts such as life, death, living, etc. are the subjects of these poems.

While I enjoyed some of the poems in this collection, I can’t say the book as a whole was impressive. For example, I enjoyed “Fear,” which according to the author is, “the inability to understand something outside of our own comprehensive elements.” I also admired “The Road,” “Sin,” “Advise,” and “Wealth.” However, some of the other poems were not as impressionable as the ones mentioned here, and I will explain why I think so in the following paragraphs.

Even though some of the poems are rather good and enjoyable, reading them is frustrating and exhausting. A reader should know when to pause and when to keep on reading. I believe, in poetry, more than in prose, we require punctuation because, in poetry, it helps you read and pause accurately and at the right time. Train of Thought is a confusing collection of poetry that rarely uses punctuations.

The complete title is Train of Thought The Collected Poems & Quotes, but where are the quotes? The style and format of all the entries are the same, which makes it difficult to distinguish between the poetry and quotations. I suggest Dunns Diaite write the quotes in a more distinguished manner than the poems.

I also don’t believe it’s appropriate for Diaite, or any poet for that matter, to use “n” instead of “and” or “u” instead of “you.” It is social media and texting lingo, which is improper for a collection of poems. Other than these, the book needs professional editing as well. I did spot more than a dozen errors in the book.

Based on the reasons above, I think it is only fair to give this book in its current state a fair rating of 2 out of 4 stars. Punctuation plays a big role in this book’s likability. Therefore, after a revision, this book will surely obtain more 4-star ratings from readers.

Train of Thought is mostly food for thought in verse. Therefore, if you’re interested in poetry or enjoy reading short but to the point entries, then it is the book for you. This book makes you think, wonder, and feel calm. It is the book that you pick up at the end of the day and read a couple of its entries before settling down for the night.

Thank you for your honest review. I agree with you, it is important that poets spell out words correctly. Hopefully, the writer works on this.
