Official Review: The Book of Love by Indana Simonde
The Book of Love by Indana Simonde is a book that contains a collection of poems about love. Indana Simonde is a great author, who has written 146 books so far. Simonde describes this book as ‘part tragedy and part romance’. The book itself consists of 14 poems, and each one is written beautifully. The book almost takes you on a journey through life because there are poems covering different aspects of life. For example, there are poems called, ‘When Young’, ‘When elderly’, and ‘Love and separation’.
There were many things that I liked about the book. I liked how each poem takes up one page, apart from the last one, which took multiple pages. This is nice because shorter poems enable you to read the book faster and it doesn’t bore you. Since the poems are short, it leaves room for the reader to interpret the meaning of the poem in their own way.
Furthermore, I like how the author didn’t just focus on the positive side of love, and instead, they talked about the ups and downs of love, the good and bad. One of my favorite poems was ‘Morality in Love’. It’s a very short poem, only eight lines but it gets you thinking. The author asks questions such as, ‘is biology, chemistry, or physics love?’ and ‘Can you be love, or do you need to be loved?’.
The author’s style of writing is free verse as there are no rhyming words. Having free verses means the book does not go into a beat that’s repetitive and dull. In addition to that, the book being short means that you can read it in one sitting, and you won’t get bored. This book teaches that love isn’t always perfect and there are flaws. It also reminds readers that love isn’t just physical but it’s emotional too.
On the other hand, there was one thing that I disliked about the book. Some of the poems consisted of random line breaks, and as a result, there would be just one or two words on a line. This meant that the poem didn’t flow, and it was also difficult to read.
In conclusion, I would rate this book 3 out of 4 stars because it consisted of a beautiful collection of poems and I enjoyed reading every one. However, due to the structure of the poems, I have to knock off one star. I didn't find any mistakes, so the book was edited well, however, there needs to be some work on the line breaks. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading poetry and likes a quick read.
