Thank you for this lovely review! The Canterbury Tales always gives me such a pleasant feeling of nostalgia as it brings me back to my first year as an undergraduate English major. I always love to see how new translators interpret these works and bring them to life again for the modern reader - and it sounds like you enjoyed it too! I'm especially fascinated by the two different retellings in one book and look forward to picking this one up myself.

Ooh, I see that you are a Chaucer expert! I'd like to know how you would find this translation.

Thanks for the lovely words!

My experiences with Shakespeare put me off ancient English literature, but this sounds so interesting. I really liked the comment about fifty shades, and your review in total. Thank you.

I have actually not read Fifty Shades. I also saw an article describing how The Miller's Tale is a few shades darker in some places. :o

Thanks for commenting! To read or not to read, that is the question.

This was one of the Chaucer tales I studied for my English Literature A-Level - it was a blast! In preserving the metre, it seems Lamont has kept the flavour of the original. I can read Middle English quite well but would love to see this translation. Thanks for a fantastic review introducing this one!

Thank you for your sweet words, Alice. I really hope to read more tales from Chaucer. But no Middle English for me, I'm afraid.

My research shows that this is regarded as the best of the 24 tales. I was happy to have read it.

Thanks for stopping by.

Your review had me laughing thinking about how Chaucer's readers would react to Fifty Shades of Grey.
I hope to able to read more translations from the author as well. :techie-studyingbrown:
