Christians have a very important role to play not only in spreading the Gospel of God through his son Jesus Christ but also in acknowledging God’s deeds upon their lives. By so doing, the non-believers will witness, first-hand, God’s love to those who are devoted to him. In The Gospel Poet’s Behold the Light, both believers and non-believers get the opportunity to learn how faithful God is to his children. The author shares several testimonies of instances where God miraculously spoke to her and rescued her during her lowest moments.

This book has a total of 154 pages. It’s, however, divided into 7 parts. Each part tells a different story, mostly the moments when the author witnessed different miracles. In summary, in part 1, Dreaming the Light, the author narrates about a horrible dream she once had several years ago. In her dream, she had been kidnapped and shot multiple times. God rescued her from her kidnapper and carried her back to her house. In part 2, Pain in the Light, the author narrates about her misfortunes and how God helped her to overcome them. These include different testimonies, letters to those who wronged her, and poems. Although this book covers a considerably wide range of themes, the central theme is that of religion. Other minor themes include pain and suffering, love and betrayal, among others. The author also tackles several topics surrounding the life of a Christian, including the role of women in the church.

I liked several things in this book. To name but a few, the author uses her own experiences to educate and show the readers how amazing God is. This shows how open, honest, and devoted the author is to God and Christianity. She also talks about current events such as the place of women in society and provides a Christian perspective of all these events. This proves that, apart from being a devoted Christian, this is an author who observes society and is willing to provide a solution to its prevailing conditions. It is also worth mentioning that the book was very nicely structured. With multiple subheadings, reading this book proved to be very enjoyable. The combination of prose writings and poetry makes the book appealing to both narrative and poetry lovers. Since I didn’t find any grammatical errors throughout the reading, this book was adequately edited.

Although this is a brilliant book, some people might find some of its contents unbelievable. For instance, there are several occasions where the author claims that God spoke to her. She, however, doesn’t explain whether God spoke to her in her dreams, during her prayers, or one-on-one meetings. She even quotes the exact words that He said. Some readers, especially non-believers, may feel like she made most of it up.

To crown it all, this is a very enjoyable spiritual book. I rate it 4 out of 4 stars. I didn’t deduct any star because the aforementioned dislike is subjective, hence other readers may not feel the same way. I recommend this book to all Christians who yearn for spiritual growth. People of other religions might not enjoy it.

Insofar as the word 'should' even has meaning, then we must say that the past is exactly as it should be, everything that happened should have happened, and everything that should happen will happen

God remains faithful even in our unfaithfulness. It makes sense that we are constantly reminded of His faithfulness. Thanks for the review.

A combination of prose and poetry in one book is very intriguing enough not to mention the subject it touches on :) Thank you for a great review!
