Official Review: Walking Along The Edge by Alden Sproull
Walking Along The Edge by Alden Sproull is a non-fictional novel that revolves around the author's concern for individuals struggling with illnesses. My best quote from the book is, "Listening is a sacred act, which lifts the spirit of the one speaking."
The poems in this book are the author's attempts to capture the experiences of walking the edges of life and death. These poems provide part of the healing process for individuals struggling with illnesses as the author expressed what he was dealing with while taking care of other people. Would sharing his journeys through these poems walk you through your uncertainties? Read this book to find out.
I haven't read many books about life and struggles in poetic collections like Walking Along The Edge. Picking up this book, I realized a raw reflection on life and saw being alive and healthy from a new perspective. I also learned one or two methods to combat some of my disappointments and grievances. Though my sadness isn't death based or life-threatening, I feel like all grievances and pains are somewhat related.
However, I was surprised at the author's immense ability to proffer beautiful solutions to struggling individuals, even when pain abounds. He decides to use creative energy while focusing on his strengths to provide greater assurances, even amid chaos. I admire the author's ability to overcome popular life struggles, as I think it will inspire others to do the same. I also like where he talked about seeking help spiritually. My job makes me detach my emotions from reality, but I love the phrase where the book says, "do with me as you wish." It is important that one try to appreciate the little things life has to offer before we pass away; this gives courage as we will walk where angels fear to tread.
I found no grammatical errors in the book; it is easy to understand, despite the influx of new words. I also admire the pictorial illustrations in the book. For example, on page 20, the author educated me on the Celtic feast of Imbolc.
Overall, I enjoyed Walking Along The Edge. I would recommend this book to open-minded Christian patients. However, I will advise one to do that with caution because what works for one person may not work for another. I also feel that research should be carried out on medicinal poetry and its effects on illnesses. Medicinal poetry has helped a lot of people with sicknesses, and I believe it worth researching. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars.
